WWF Royal Rumble 1991 - January 1991
WWF Royal Rumble 1991 - January 19th 1990 - Miami, Florida
Matches
The Rockers defeated Orient Express (7/10)
Big Bossman defeated The Barbarian (5/10)
Sgt. Slaughter defeated Ultimate Warrior {WWF World Heavyweight Title} (8/10)
The Mountie defeated Koko B Ware (5/10)
Ted Dibiase & Virgil defeated Dusty & Dustin Rhodes (7/10)
Hulk Hogan defeated 29 other men to win Royal Rumble (9/10)
Moments - Positives
Some truly classic moments within the Rumble itself which was probably the most solid Rumble match-up to date and which saw Hogan win the match itself two years in a row to earn a title shot at Wrestlemania. Savage challenging Warrior for a title and getting rejected to then cost Warrior the title against Sgt Slaughter was brilliantly executed and Virgil / Ted Dibiase showdown was very entertaining. Both set up Wrestlemania VI. Bret Hart also shone in the Rumble as a great singles wrestler.
Moments - Negatives
A few poor matches sandwiched between some great ones as we have come to expect. Pushing the Mountie was an awful decision in my opinion and Koko B Ware simply could not work the crowd. Apart from those few matches though, very few positives.
Overall Summary
A great Rumble event which was made by the shocking victory for Sgt Slaughter and the great build up to the Warrior/Savage feud. A few poor matches shouldnt ruin the event and the Rumble match itself is the first one since inception which truly captured the Royal Rumble spirit.
SCORE = 8.0
